GHURI, or KITE, provides a gallery of memorable potraits
GHURI, or KITE, provides a gallery of memorable potraits, travelling through the history of one’s childhood, from Bangla to Bollywood. No wonder it is difficult to portray emotions on six yards, the KITERUNNER, Debjani di, has been awing us every time with her striking innovations. Not only does she perfectly brings out the rich culture and heritage of Bengal but also greets them with a contemporary style, touching the soul of the wearer.
Didi, a beautiful soul, has been fulfilling my capricious demands with utmost care and adding life to my whims dedicatedly.
I wish you a great journey through timeless boundaries. Keep soaring higher, for the sky is NOT THE LIMIT!!!

Ghuri & I
Ghuri and I, long story short, we met in September 2018 through Facebook. This is the kind of relationship that started as friendship, but didn’t take much time to become like family! Debjani listened to all my requests and tantrums so patiently. I’ve bought tons of saris and blouses from Ghuri. Each of her products are excellent in quality and her designs are very unique! I can depend on her, and her brand, with my eyes closed.
I hope this Ghuri will fly with the same spirit as its namesake. Debjani, the sky is not the limit for you ❤️

“Really great store”
“ Satyajit Ray rightly considered to be one of the greatest film makers of all times had a deep interests in crime fiction and he read all of Sherlock Holmes’ fictions in his school days. Feluda is one of the greatest detective characters created by Satyajit Ray & a favourite of any bangali. His character resembles Sherlock Holmes & Tapesh/Topshe’s character resembles Dr. Watson. My dupatta , woven in matka silk , with Feluda theme in mind, is from Debjani of Ghuridesign . It is a light as air soft elegant dupatta. It is versatile & can be paired with not only white, black, peach suits but suits of any colour .The motifs, handwoven by extra weft method of Jamdani are taken from various Feluda books, illustrated by Ray & provided the inspiration for my handcrafted bindi created using black & red liquid bindi. The motif in the corner is of Ma Kali. Debjani is an awesome designer. This gives an insight into her imagination. She could have got it embroidered or hand painted it too but to sit with weavers & plan out the execution of this creation exhibits her passion & talent. ”
(N.B – Chinnadi and I had a beautiful relationship, she used to call me whenever she posted a Bengali Song on Instagram or when she cooked a Bengali meal. She was so happy to know that we were planning for a website launch. Few weeks before her death, she had sent me this testimonial. It will remain as a blessing for us, she must be watching us from a happy place.)

“Ghuri design is a part of life indeed”
“ As unique as a painter on loom, from the nostalgia of Malgudi to the fire of Tiger, from the strength of Frida to the magic of Nakshi Kanthar haat and the articulations of Satyajit Ray, my journey of a kite runner began with Debjani Di’s rendition of The Sound of Music on six yards and there has been no looking back. I trust her to always make the unthinkable masterpieces through Jamdani. Ghuri design is a part of life indeed❤ ”

“Lots of love to GHURI”
“ For saree aficionados, working with textiles and print together becomes a dream! Deb Di’s work has a beautiful fusion of all the nostalgia prevailing in “calcutta “, from sukumar ray’s “abol tabol” to satyajit ray, tagore and even frida No doubt, she has always been the sweetest soul maintaining a healthy customer buyer relationship, with less business strategies and more feelings. Lots of love to GHURI. Hope it touches heights like a kite in sky ❤ ”

“Can sarees be art?”
“ If you want an answer to this question then I’d say you need to only scroll through the designs on Ghuri’s page. I first had the chance to meet Debjani di, the beautiful mind behind the brand, two years ago and I was in love with not just the brand but the person too! Saying that I want to own pretty much everything she’s created is an understatement. I’ve had the privilege to own one of their most beautiful creations till date which is the Van Gogh saree and it’s an heirloom that I’ll treasure for life. I never really thought I’d be able to have a piece of one of the most stunning art pieces that I’d be able to wear too! It’s truly a work of art that’s worth a lot more than I’ve paid for it! Bringing creations that are unique and personal is a speciality of Debjani di and Ghuri to me is synonymous with warmth and joy! Here’s to being a kite runner, forever and always! ”

“Enjoyed wearing Ghuri a lot”
“ It’s been a while I have known Debjani and one thing I can say is she is here to stay. Her sarees are unique in their own way and are conversation starters for sure. They are something which you might not have ever seen before and especially the way she comes up with these ideas -totally praise-worthy! Being a client and as well as her muse, I have loved and enjoyed wearing Ghuri a lot and hope to do that in the years to come. Wishing you all the best Debjani, and many many more successes in the years to come. Much love. ”

“My journey with Ghuri”
“ My journey with Ghuri began with the spunky Sound Of Music saree. With my obsession for anything fabric, my discussions with designer Debjani went into all kinds of depths, while she patiently explained the various inticracies of weaving, dyeing, thread counts and more. Followed that up with asking her yo make me a couple of blouses. And the fit was from heaven. Just perfect. I have never had a tailor stitch such a perfect fit consistently. Ghuri is now my first call for anything handloom, anything I need stitched and just enjoying learning more about weaves and fabrics. ”
